2013 was a big year for the Indian automobile industry, especially the compact segment. Both the compact car and compact SUV segment witnessed a number of significant launches. In fact, the compact sedan wasn’t left behind as well. Success of vehicles like Ford Ecosport, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Grand i10 sedan clearly hints that the delivering excellence at affordable price is what consumers actually demand.

The trend is expected to continue in 2014 as well. There are some important launches scheduled which are being awaited eagerly by the consumers. Honda City Diesel:  Honda amazed everyone by foraying in to budget segment with the launch of the Honda Amaze. The Japanese car manufacturer is all set to strengthen its footmarks in the mid-range sedan segment with Honda City Diesel. Already unveiled in November last year, the City Diesel is set to go on sale soon. There’s no official info on pricing though.

The diesel variant of 2014 Honda City will feature a 1.5 iDTEC diesel engine which will produce 100PS at 3600rpm and 200Nm at 1750rpm. It can achieve 100kmph in 12.8 seconds and promises a mileage of 26 kmpl.

Datsun Go: One of the most awaited upcoming launch at the Auto Expo 2014. The Datsun Go will be launched by Nissan under its Datsun brand. Expected to be priced below Rs 4 lakhs, the Datsun Go will feature a 1.2-litre three cylinder engine.

Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan: The sedan variant of the hugely successfull Grand i10 hatchback is also being rumoured to be launch soon, there’s no official word though. It will borrow the same engine from it hatchback sibling. The petrol variant is expected to pack a 1.2-litre four cylinder petrol engine which will produce 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. The diesel unit, on the other hand will come with 1.1-litre four cylinder engine which will produce 70bhp and 160Nm.
